Music Therapist-Board Certified
Neurologic Music Therapist
University Affiliated Internship Director
Laura is a transplanted Yankee, having grown up in Massachusetts and then ventured down south to the University of Miami in 1985. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy in 1989 and is proficient on flute, guitar, vocals and piano. After interning at United Cerebral Palsy of Miami, she became a board certified Music Therapist in 1990. Laura worked at several facilities in Miami including the ARC, Easter Seal Society and the Miami Veteran’s Hospital until her move to Snellville in 1998. She worked for 3 years with Babies Can’t Wait and was employed with Eastside Medical Center’s Heritage Behavioral Health program for 14 years.
Laura has traveled extensively through the Southeast, giving workshops and presentations on the therapeutic use of music with people of all ages. She also had the opportunity to guest lecture at the University of Miami and supervise undergraduate Music Therapy students during their student practicum experiences. Being able to use music to help others is truly one of her greatest joys in life!
Her other passion is her family. Laura lives in Snellville with her husband of 27 years and their daughter, Jackie. Together, they love to travel and are always planning the “next great trip!” Laura and Jackie are very involved in the theater community and Laura has been the musical director for Acting Up Theatre of Lawrenceville since 2010.
Laura currently leads music therapy groups at nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the Atlanta area, provides services to children with varying abilities, and manages our Songs of Hope program. She is also dedicated to working with Veterans and is thrilled to both, provide music therapy services, and manage our Veterans’ programming. In addition to her clinical work, Laura is also MMT’s Assistant Director, and the Internship Coordinator for our University-Affiliated Internship Program.
